Jayl de Lara from ‘The Harmony School’ was at our June meeting and the last time he had sung in Minster Village Hall was in the 1980’s as the singer in a punk band!! After introducing himself and giving us some background information about his life he then taught us breathing exercises which would help us with our singing. A very informative evening.
We had a very successful couple of days providing refreshments at Old Oak Cottage during Minster Open Gardens. The money raised was shared between St Mary’s Church Fabric Fund and our chosen charity this year which is ‘Louie’s Helping Hands’. A big thank you to all the waitresses, cake bakers and all who supported us.

Our May Meeting was the discussion and voting on the Resolutions put forward by the National Federation of WIs. They were-
‘Don’t fear the Smear’ –Cervical screening saves around 5,000 lives a year, yet attendance is currently at its lowest for a decade. The NFWI urges WI members to attend routine screening, to take action to raise awareness of the importance of cervical screening and address barriers to attendance to help eradicate cervical cancer.
The decline of rural bus services‘-Over the last decade there has been a massive decline in the number of bus services, particularly of those in rural and semi-rural areas. In order to alleviate loneliness, improve health and wellbeing, as well as promoting sustainable development, the NFWI calls on the Government and local authorities to increase subsidies and work in partnership with bus companies and community transport operators to enable an adequate provision of services’.

Our speaker for the April meeting was Martin Heard who gave an interesting talk and slideshow on the ‘The Gardens of Impressionism’ – Monet and the other Impressionists as gardeners and painters of gardens in France.

The speaker for our March meeting was John Shervington, our local consultant Uro-Gynaecologist. He gave us a fascinating and informative talk about female incontinence, the causes and the different treatments both surgical and non-surgical.
